Health Promotion Unit

Health Promotion Unit

Health Promotion Consultants for the THS - North West Region
We provide support and training for Health Promotion planning and activities with THS staff, as well as non-government organisations, community service organisations, local government, schools, and more.
What do we do?
We help you plan, evaluate or implement activities to improve health, especially things that empower people to look after themselves. We help you find resources, training, and link you with helpful people and groups.
We also provide specialised advice to management about health needs in our community. We can advise about effective health promotion and disease prevention approaches.

E-news for you

Our monthly ‘e-news’ includes events, training, resources, funding and information. Email Michelle if you want to be on the list. If you have something to share, send it in by the 25th of the month: jenelle.wells@ths.tas.gov.au Keep it brief: up to 5 lines of text with links or phone numbers for more information.

Networking

Come along to the quarterly Health Promotion Networking meetings. They are linked by videoconference / online across the NW. Remaining meetings in 2020 are both Wednesdays, 12 noon – 1.30pm, 9 September, 2 December. In September we are linking by Zoom. Our focus is the NW and we welcome services who cover this region (even if you are based in the North or the South). Find out what health-promoting activities are happening around the region. Share what you are doing. Hear from an interesting guest speaker. Email michelle.towle@ths.tas.gov.au to find out more.

Health Literacy workshops

Book us in to run practical, fun workshops for your staff. We cover health literacy principles around written materials, verbal communication, and the health literacy environment of your service. These are relevant and immediately useful to reception, management and clinical staff. Have some fun as you do some work towards NSQHS Standard 2.

How else can we help you?

Self-management programs for Chronic Pain and Chronic Diseases (Get the Most Out of Life) - training and facilitation • Finding and interpreting health data / statistics • Finding health promotion resources – information, groups, and funding • Evaluation planning – setting goals and objectives • Evaluation of your health promoting program or service – questionnaire construction, other evaluation methods • Health literacy tools to improve the accessibility of your service
